350Sac newletter, Sept. 12, 2016:
Standing Rock doesn’t stand alone
Picture
Last Friday (Sept. 9), scores of passionate people gathered at the Army Corps office on J St to stand with the Standing Rock Sioux who are fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). If built, the pipeline would carry toxic fracked oil from North Dakota across four states and under the Missouri River. There was no EIR.

This is a truly inspirational storyThousands are camped in the path of the pipeline, facing down bulldozers, dogs, and police. Friday was a game-changer. First a judge denied the request to halt the pipeline, then moments later the Obama Administration paused the pipeline
We need to make sure this temporary victory becomes permanent to protect sacred water, tribal rights, and the climate. There will be a rally in Davis on Tuesday, Sept 13 at noon at the old City Hall, 226 F St.
Calling teachers & friends: Divest STRS
Join Fossil Free California on Wednesday, Sept 14, to urge CalSTRS to divest from fossil fuels. Teachers' pensions should not contribute to climate change. You may make a public comment (3 min). Meet in the CalSTRS cafeteria at 2:30 @100 Waterfront Pl, West Sacramento. Jane

Accelerating the transition
Cities all over the world are transitioning away from fossil fuels to become 100% renewable. 350 Sacramento’s Model Sacramento workgroup is looking for ways to speed up our local transition. Join us Sept 13 at 6pm @20th & T Sts for next steps.

Public Workshop: Transportation/land use
The vision, goals and recommendations established in the AB 32 Scoping Plan will shape priorities for the next several years. Land use, development, and transportation strategies are critical not only for GHG reduction, but also for building more equitable, healthy, and livable communities. Come to the public workshop on Wednesday, September 14, 9–4:30 pm @CalEPA Byron Sher Auditorium, 1001 I St. Live webcast at http://ift.tt/2cAVLb9

Transition Streets: Learn about Samso Island’s transition to 100% renewable
Transition Streets is all about how we need to make the transition to 100% clean energy and how each of us can have a direct impact.
We have an exciting series of sessions planned starting on Sept 22.

On September 227:00-8:30 pm @Belle Cooledge Library, Charlotte Glode will give a brief presentation on her recent trip to the island of Samso, Denmark, famous for its 100% renewable energy system. Then we will discuss 350 Sacramento’s partnership with SMUD to increase Greenergy enrollments. Finally, we will launch a “virtual neighborhood” of people interested in making their personal lifestyles more sustainable. For more information: Richard Lentz 916-597-2610.
